An Overview

The Leadership Initiative (TLI) is a Youth Mentoring Organization which services over 150 middle and high school students, and their families, throughout Chicago’s Western Suburb Communities.  Our Board and Leadership team have mentored hundreds of youth in the Chicagoland area, for over nineteen (19) years, successfully implementing educational programs which have motivated and inspired Mentees to become productive, and positive influences at Home, School, and Community.

TLI is committed to developing young men and women to understand the value of a quality education and its keys to success, establishing a success mentality, and living a life they did not know was possible.  Our Youth Mentoring Program is curriculum based, and designed to provide Mentees the knowledge, strategies, and skill sets needed to equip them with healthy self-esteem, a high degree of confidence, and a competitive temperament, thus enabling them to succeed academically, professionally and socially during the course of their current and post-secondary endeavors.

Curriculum topics include:  Personal Branding; The Art of Listening, Public Speaking, and Debate; Self-Esteem; Health & Wellness; Anger Management & Conflict Resolution; S.T.E.A.M.; Professional, Social and Dining Etiquette; Financial Literacy; and setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals.  Field trips to Technology, Academic, and Cultural events serve to round out a student’s Mentoring Program experience.

Participant Testimonials:

  • “The mentoring program has provided me with knowledge that I will hold onto for the rest of my life” “I am a more confident, intelligent, and strong black woman because of my mentors and fellow mentees who have always pushed me to be the best version of myself” - Kaitlyn S. (Mentee)

  • “The Mentoring Program has aided our three sons.  They were exposed to countless educational opportunities, and given advice that will benefit them throughout life.  The Mentoring Program has truly been a blessing to our family.” – Ken  & Valerie F. (Parents)

  • “The creative leadership, along with the committed cadre of supportive female and male mentors, and other consistent, exceptional professional volunteers, has created a ‘rare, transformative’ model of mentoring.  This model could serve to set the example and heighten the ‘relevancy of co-ed mentoring’ for many others to follow” - Dr. A. Albright (Mentoring Partner)
